Saturday, March 17

St Patrick’s Day is rapidly approaching, and that means Parking for Peace! For many years, businesses at the intersection of Montgomery and Ridge have allowed Ulster Project to stand at the entrance of their parking lots and collect $5 for parking on St. Patrick’s Day. As a volunteer, you would pair with another UP volunteer and stand at the entrance to the parking lots. When cars pull up to park, you say “$5 please”–it’s very easy and a great way to give back to the Project. Teens and Parents are both encouraged to participate.

With this year falling on a Saturday, we will park until 11:00pm. We need Dads to fill up the late schedule; teens will be welcome to work this shift but they will be paired with a Dad. Check out the schedule below, pick a time and send and me (Mike Annis) an email with your choice of time to mikeandbetsy47060@fuse.net. We’ll then confirm your time and our undying gratitude.
3:00 – 5:00 pm: 8 volunteers needed
5:00 – 7:00 pm: 8 volunteers needed
7:00 – 9:00 pm: 8 volunteers needed
9:00 – 11:00 pm: 10 volunteers needed

Irish Night is quickly approaching! Next weekend we’ll be eating Irish Stew, listening to the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Glee Club, being entertained by our talented teens (including a McGing dancer) and of course bidding on fabulous items! Most importantly, we will be renewing friendships and making new ones while helping in the effort to bring peace to Northern Ireland. Be sure to mark you calendar for July 16th from 6:00-10:00 at St. James Church in White Oak. Also, please print as many copies as you like of the flyer below (pdf file) and place it around town. The more people attend, the better this fund raiser will be.

How can you help?
1. Come and enjoy the evening with us!
2. Make a pot of Irish stew to share with our guests. (We need 10 more volunteers.)
3. Volunteer to help serve dinner, serve drinks, sell raffle tickets, monitor bid tables, collect winning bid $, and much more! (We need a total of 12-15 people)
4. Solicit a donation(s) or donate yourself. Think creatively–do you have something you received as a gift or purchased and cannot return? Now is the perfect time to re-gift; we can never have enough!

Please contact us and let us know that you can help make this the most successful Irish Night yet!

Thank you,
Irish Night Co-Chairs

////////

Minutes from the March Board Meeting on March 24:

1. Opening Prayer

2. Parking for Peace
Very nice night; UPC made $810 parking cars from 5-9 in the Pleasant Ridge area.

3. Budget
We have all our fund raisers in for the year. Need to look at expenses for the summer activities.

4. Fund Raisers
1) Clovernight at Clovernook: A nice time. Thank you to all.
2) Mailings: We are getting some money in, but it is down a bit.
3) Other ideas: Brainstormed ideas that would be new; or is it time to revisit some older ideas?

5. Summer 2011
1) Host Families: Interviews have begun and literature has been sent out. Probably should have an Open House-one east side, one west side for potential teens/families.
2) Spiritwear: Discussed pricing and a meeting to go over design ideas.
3) Calendar: preliminary calendar that the group went over.

6. Web
Paypal is now up and working. Concerns about some members not receiving emails about the meetings. Will need to revisit about how often info is going out and to which groups.

7. Special Request
The Louisiana UP requested a $100 donation from all US UP’s. They have the national convention there in Nov. A motion was made and it was approved by all present. A check will be sent.
